Trying To HidePosted by Linda Bailey in REAP, love, grace, Genesis |
|
We often deceive ourselves in thinking that we can hide things from God.
Reference: v.15 Sarah was afraid, so she lied and said, "I did not laugh." But he said, "Yes, you did laugh." (NIV Bible)
Explore: I love it when kids try to hide something from you, but in doing so they make it all the more obvious. While often it's the badly formed lie that makes it so obvious, sometimes all it takes is a bashful facial expression and your know you've caught them out. And when you call them to task on it they are like, 'I didn't... I wasn't... I wouldn't...' Yeah right!
It seems like Sarah was totally caught out by God when she laughed at the idea of conceiving a child. And when she was called to task she was like, 'I didn't... I wasn't... I wouldn't...!' And like that could fool God. It was like a guilty child in front of their parent, who just sees straight through the lie.
Application: It seems quite ridiculous that we would try to hide things from a God who is all-knowing and ever-present. It's like trying to hide a jumbo jet in a garage! And yet we often deceive ourselves in thinking that we can hide things from God. But we can't. He knows everything... and yet He still loves us just the same. That is part of the amazing grace of God. He knows all about us and yet He still loves us.
Prayer: Dear Lord, Your grace is truly amazing. Thank you for loving me, even when I am foolish and sinful. Amen.
What aspect of your life are you trying to hide from God? Receive freedom and forgiveness by declaring what He already knows.
