Battles ahead

David had a huge battle in fighting the Philistines, but God was there for him.

2 Samuel 5.1-25

Reference: v. 24 As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, move quickly, because that will mean the Lord has gone out in front of you to strike the Philistine army.

Explore: David had a huge task before him. The Philistines were attacking in full force and were not relenting in their attacks. David continued to ask of the Lord whether he really should have been fighting back at the Philistines. I’m sure David isn’t like me, who only goes to the Lord at the last minute when every other avenue has closed. Although he did have to ask the Lord twice and so He went before David and helped defeat the Philistines.

Application: In life we do come up against big challenges. Often our challenges seem insurmountable. If there is anyone we can depend on, it’s God. He has shown us in this passage that He not only sits with us when we feel overwhelmed but He can go before us and help us in every battle that we may face. Let us not forget to rely on God when the battles loom ahead and constantly look to Him for strength and guidance.

Prayer: Lord, so often we think we have the strength to confront things on our own. You are the all powerful God. If You are for us, who can be against us? Thank you for your partnership. Amen.
