Rich InDeed

Posted by Linda Bailey in TimothyREAPmoneygenerous

Linda Bailey is currently away. Her new devotionals will begin again on the 1st February, 2010. In the meantime, here is a Daily Devotion that has been significant for one of my readers..

Whether you have 25 pesos or $250,000 we all have the ability to do good deeds

1 Timothy 6:1-21

Reference:  v.18  Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. (NIV Bible)

Explore:  Last week I had ten thousand worth of notes in my wallet.  Sure enough this was ten thousand pesos rather than ten thousand Australian dollars, so it was really only equivalent to $250AUS.  But it still felt like a lot of money.  In Australia I would not be considered as financially rich at all.  In the Philippines however, the majority of the nation (almost 96 million people) would consider me to be rich.  Would the Apostle Paul consider me to be rich?

Application:  Scripture never puts a figure on what it is to be rich, in fact in Proverbs it tells us that our wealth should be in wisdom rather than in silver and gold.  Here in this passage Paul is giving instruction to those who are well off to be generous and share.  He doesn't say that if you are rich you are evil, but that in all we have we need to do good deeds for others.  Whether you have 25 pesos or $250,000 we all have the ability to do good deeds and to be generous to others.  Let's not allow money to get in the way of our service to God.

Prayer:  Lord, You are not reliant on the money that we earn.  Help us to focus more on the richness of our deeds rather than the richness of our bank balances.  Amen.

How can you be generous towards someone today?
