Rewards on Earth

We may give generously to the needy, but if we do that just to receive praise from others then we weren't really acting to be generous, we were acting to be seen as a better person.

Matthew 6.1-18

Expectations

Due to David’s position of King and head of the army, people expected him to revel in death and slaughter.

2 Samuel 4.1-12

Reference: v. 10 … when a man told me, ‘Saul is dead,’ and thought he was bringing good news, I seized him and put him to death in Ziklag. That was the reward I gave him for his news!
