Movie Plots

Posted by Linda Bailey in REAPGenesisfaithful followersacceptance

As a self-absorbed teenager I use to think of my life as a movie.

Genesis 38:1-30

Reference: v.14 She took off her widow’s clothes, covered herself with a veil to disguise herself, and then sat down at the entrance to Enaim, which is on the road to Timnah.  For she saw that, though Shelah had now grown up, she had not been given to him as his wife. (NIV Bible)

Explore:  I love to watch movies.  I’m not a huge fan of horror movies but I like most other genres: Romance, comedy, action, musical, thriller.  I am easily led into a story line and get swept away with all the images.  As a self-absorbed teenager I use to think of my life as a movie.  I would try to think deep thoughts so my life would seem a little more interesting, but knew too well that my life was not really noteworthy!  Now when I read a story like that of chapter 38 in Genesis I can see a movie plot starting to emerge already.  I realise that this one chapter spans many years but there is still an awful lot going on: deception, death, betrayal, sex.  It’s a blockbuster waiting to happen!

Application:  Often our everyday, regular days are not that noteworthy.  We settle into routines that seem more like Groundhog Day than Charlie’s Angels.  However, maybe our lives are not meant to represent the latest action movie.  Throughout the Bible we are constantly encouraged to be diligent in the small things and not to just sit and wait for the big, exciting adventure to come and knock on our door.  If we are regularly declaring God’s love and caring for others, that’s the kind of movie that God desires to see.  And while it’s always nice to have a large audience, we should only be making our movie for the approval of the Creator.

Prayer:  Lord, You have bought the front row seat to our lives.  May we live out our lives to seek only Your approval.  Amen.

What is the movie plot to your life like at the moment?  Who are you performing for?
