More Than A Self-High-Five

Posted by Linda Bailey in REAPHebrewsencouragement

I feel like every time I accomplish something, even though it may seem small, it is like I've conquered the world!

Hebrews 3:7-19

Reference:  v.13 But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness. (NIV Bible)

Explore: I have just recently started learning a new skill.  As children we are constantly learning new things nearly every day, but as adults we tend to stick with what we know.  However, I've just started exploring the realm of radio.  There are similar skills used in radio to what I have done in the past, however there is a whole new set of skills that I am having to learn from scratch.  I feel like every time I accomplish something, even though it may seem small, it is like I've conquered the world!  Most of the time I am the only one who notices these accomplishments, so I'll give myself a self-high-five and move on.  But there are a number of people who I work with who are great at noticing my small achievements too.  Even though they have learnt these skills years ago they are really good at congratulating me on my small successes.  It's this encouragement that helps me to strive for the next goal and the next hopeful success.

Application:  While we are able to accomplish good things on our own, it's great when we have the support and encouragement of the people around us.  I love the verse mentioned above from Hebrews when it tell us to encourage people "as long as it is called today."  I love that, it's like a poetic way of saying, "Encourage people all the time!"  While we should not have to rely on the encouragement of others, it certainly goes a long way to assist us in our journey.

Prayer:  Lord, thank you for the people you have placed in my life.  May I hear the encouragements but also be willing to encourage others.  Amen.

Who needs your encouragement today?
