Issues Arising

Posted by Linda Bailey in REAPissuesActs

While we can not cater to every person's whim, it is important to address issues as they arise and work towards supporting the whole community.

Acts 6.1-15

Reference:  v.1 In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Grecian Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. (NIV Bible)

Explore:  This passage is a good reminder for me that the first Christians were actually human.  The first chapters of Acts are amazing and show the power of the Spirit and the massive impact a group of believers can have on a community.  However, it's reassuring for us to know that they had their troubles too.  This issue regarding food distribution may have been handled simply however, if it was not addressed it could have split the early church.

Application:  So often, small things come up in our faith communities that cause division and hurt.  While we can not cater to every person's whim, it is important to address issues as they arise and work towards supporting the whole community.  We can never underestimate the negative impact and issue can have if it is not addressed.  And often if a problem is looked into and worked through, it can often result in a stronger community and a more efficient way of doing things.  Once an issue is resolved we are then able to continue to focus on our mission at hand and work together in building the Kingdom of God.

Prayer:  Lord, so often it is petty things that stand in our way of healthy community.  Help us to be assertive when we need to be but to always do things in Your love.  Amen.
