Everyone Has A Price

Posted by Linda Bailey in shadow missionREAPmoneyMatthew

I know that this somehow makes me less of a girl, but I really don't enjoy spending time and money in shops.

Matthew 28.1-15

Reference:  v.12 When the chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money... (NIV Bible)

Explore:  I don't really like shopping.  I know that this somehow makes me less of a girl, but I really don't enjoy spending time and money in shops.  This means that when I do have to buy some clothes I devise a clear plan and process.  I allocate a set period of time that I will spend at one shopping centre/mall and I will get it all done in one fowl swoop.  The only problem with this method of shopping is that you judge every piece of clothing according to the first article you buy.  If I was to buy my first top for $20 then every other top over that price seems too expensive.  Anything under that price feels like a bargain!  It's like I create a set price for myself depending on the first item of clothing I buy.
It seems that there were a number of people connected to Jesus that had a price.  Judas was given a sum of money for betraying his rabbi.  The guards were given a sum of money to spread lies.  Do we all have a price?

Application:  Your price may not be associated to money but maybe to pride.  If you were able to get further along in social standing for a particular action that may seem more appealing to you than a sum of money.  I guess we all have a shadow side that seems so appealing and tempts our desires.
I think that's where Jesus' sacrifice seems so amazing.  He paid the ultimate price and yet got nothing personally from it.  He paid the price so that we could benefit, not so that He would get anything in return.  And it's from those actions that we are called to be Christ-like in all we do.

Prayer:  Lord, there are many temptations in our lives.  Help us to focus on you in all that we aim for.  Amen.

What is your price?  It's worth thinking about now before it becomes a  real temptation.
