Explore:  Through his line of work, my husband often has video producing contracts with organisations to produce a training or promotional DVD. I believe that Cameron is very good at what he does and through our contacts he will be asked regularly to contribute to some video producing for a not-for-profit organisation.  Cameron is generous with his advice and often gives greatly of his time, however he will often expect some 'blood money' in return.  He explains the term 'blood money' to mean something the organisation has to give in order to have them commit to the project.  This may not be actual money it may be writing the script or providing meals or paying for certain equipment.  While Cameron may not get any money directly, he finds that if an organisation is willing to contribute in some way they are more likely to commit to the video project.  If there is no 'blood money' involved then he finds there is little commitment which means he is pouring a great deal of his time and resources into something that is not deemed very important.  'Blood money' is a way of getting people committed to the cause.

Application:  I can't be 100% sure but it almost sounds like Paul needed some 'blood money' from the Corinthians.  He had a deep love for them so went out of his way to not be a burden to them.  However, afterwards he felt that they were easily swayed by any prophet that crossed their path.  We can see where people's commitment lies when we look at where they spend their extra time and money.  We all need to work and pay our living costs, but its the time and money beyond those daily needs that show our focus.  God does not require any 'blood money' from us.  However, when we truly witness the great and sacrificial giving that God showed to us, surely our response would be to give all we have back to Him.
