Along the Way

Posted by Linda Bailey in REAPjourneyActs

This passage shows that often the journey is even more important than the final destination.

Acts 8.26-40

Reference:  v.27a  So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch... (NIV Bible)

Explore:  I am a task-oriented person.  This means that I work well off a 'to-do' list and feel productive by completing tasks.  This also means I struggle to be patient when I have to wait for others or even wait for the 'right time'.
Clearly, Philip was not as impatient or as task-oriented as me.  An angel of the Lord sent him on a journey and as he was on his way, Philip was willing to be side tracked by an eunuch.  Philip was able to recognise that this person was more important than the speed of his journey.  Maybe this person was actually the purpose of his journey.

Application:  I can often get into the mind set that the end product is more important than the journey along the way.  And yet this passage shows that often the journey is even more important than the final destination.  If we are open to allowing God's spirit to move throughout our whole journey, then we can discover so much more than just focusing on the final product.

Prayer:  Lord, may I have the patience to put Your journey before my own tasks.  Give me Your wisdom to know when to push forward and when to pause.  Amen.
